That Seventies Show

The decade that taste forget was at the forefront of designer’s minds for Autumn. Key colours - sharp lime, tangy mustard, purple and the era’s ultimate tone, brown - are back, appearing on flared silhouettes, pussy bow blouses and modest skirt lengths. These modern reinterpretations of retro style feel like the gems you might score in the best charity shops, but are crafted with 2017’s signature attention to detail.

Despite it’s workaday reputation, sharp, slick, city-style suiting stole the show this season. The trouser suit is Autumn’s essential buy with every incarnation of print, shape and style appearing on the catwalk. However it looks most modern when appearing in luxurious fabrics and wearable tones of taupe, khaki, blue and dove grey. Add shoes you can walk in and crisp shirts for the cool take on corporate chic.

It was clear that going out out was a key influence on the Autumn collections. All that glitters doesn’t have to be gold, with silver, gunmetal and pewter key shades for the season. Lurex, lame and diamante dazzled the front row and were offset with gleaming skin and simple accessories - including the essential over-the-knee boot - to let the sparkle do the talking after dark. Hotline bling is back.
